Autism Resources

Autism from A Neuro-affirming Perspective

  • Reframing Autism - a website dedicated to providing up to date resources for understanding Autism through a Neuro-affirming lens, run by Autistic people.

  • Embracing Autism - the ‘ultimate Autism resource’ created by two Autistic researchers, providing a wealth of research and easy to read information for questioning, self-diagnosed and formally diagnosed Autistic people.

Screening Tools for Autism

  • RAADS-R (2011) - this screening questionnaire measures traits and experiences consistent with diagnostic criteria for Autism in adults. The RAADS-R is designed to also capture those fall in the sub-clinical range, which can be due to masking and other external factors.

  • Autism Spectrum Quotient (2001) - this questionnaire is a commonly used screener for Autistic traits for those aged 16+. It is important to note that the AQ has received criticism for having narrow criteria that does not accurately reflect the diversity of Autistic experiences.

  • Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (2018) - the CAT-Q is a measure that assesses ‘social camouflaging’, where a person (intentionally or unintentionally) uses strategies to hide or suppress their Autistic traits to meet social expectations and norms. This is also referred to as ‘masking’.
