Neurodiversity refers to the variety of neurotypes that exist in the world, recognising the reality that we don’t all work the same way. The Neuro-affirming approach emphasises that variations in brain functioning are normal, and many of the differences referred to as ‘disorders’ are not a problem to be fixed, but simply a divergent neurotype that requires different support and accommodations.
‘Neurodivergent’ refers to those of us who’s brains don’t function in a typical way, and is commonly used as an umbrella term for people with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism and ADHD.

For a long time, identifying as LGBTQIA+ was considered a disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), and Gender Dysphoria is still listed as a condition. While the field of psychology now recognises that the treatment for gender dysphoria is gender-affirming care, we still have strides to make in ensuring that LGBTQIA+ people feel respected and treated with dignity when accessing health services.
Bec Elliott Psychology offers a welcoming and non-judgmental service, recognising that diversity in sexuality and gender should be supported and celebrated.

Health at Every Size is an approach to health service provision that supports people of all shapes and sizes to take care of their health without the use of weight-shaming and weight loss focused interventions.
We reject the notion that body size determines health and wellbeing, and support clients to develop self-compassion, body acceptance, and a healthy relationship with food.
